She had completely forgotten what she was doing again. Not that it was a rare occurrence with her, but still, she just had one of ‘those’ moments, a moment where everything she had learned the previous day was wiped clean. For Heatherpaw this was her life. She would wake up each morning, usually in a good mood and ready to train. She would go out with her mentor and stay upbeat and positive. What Heatherpaw didn’t realize is that she had been learning the same battle move every morning for nearly a moon. Finally one day it clicked in her brain, and she was able to show her mentor the move almost perfectly. That was a day no one thought would come. It showed that the apprentice could learn, it just took much longer than the normal apprentice. The tiny gray she-cat had been showered with love and so many words of encouragement that day.
Heatherpaw had just recently turned seven moons and though it had taken a moon to learn, the she-cat knew the entire territory. It finally stuck in her brain, along with that one battle move. For the tiny she-cat this was a major accomplishment. Maybe she wasn’t useless after all. She could at least somewhat defend herself. But she was far away from being able to take care of herself. Hunting was still a challenge to her, there were so many steps involved.
Which is where the apprentice was now, out in the forest. Heatherpaw was padding around, the smile on her face was large as she found herself actually able to go into the forest by herself without getting lost. Her pawsteps were light and bouncy as she made her way through, completely forgetting why she had gone out in the first place. Was she suppose to meet her mentor? Or maybe she was to try and practice hunting? Oh well, she was having fun. Her attention was soon caught by a puddle of water in her way. Looking at her own reflection, the apprentice wondered what it would be like to not have so many cats looking at her like she was going to break.
Her thoughts were disturbed by her sudden need to do something. Her body was quivering with excess energy and without even thinking, she found herself in the middle of the puddle splashing around and mewling with laughter.
