Outside the medicine cat's den, a little kit sat anxiously outside looking into the darkness. Early morning, the warriors were already up while the rest of the clan was fast asleep, soon to be roused by the sunlight that would come creeping into the forest camp of Thunderclan. Fatekit was determined to get an early lesson out of Shortear today, she wanted to know what those little red berries were for. Before, the medicine cat seemed to be avoiding Fatekit, but she wasn't going to get by her today. The silver-blue kit made sure to be up and infront of the den as soon as the warriors were up, so she believed she was right on time.
With determination burning in her big hazel eyes, Fatekit stared into the den stifling a yawn, not wanting to blink just incase Shortear slipped by her, tail curled around her snow-white paws. She was going to be an apprentince soon and she wanted to know what she wanted to do, but the paths seemed so blurred and crossed up she couldn't decide. The little kit figured that finding out if the ways of herbs and healing bored her or excited her would be an aid in her quest for a future.

Shortear had been tossing and turning all night, she didn't get much sleep, and she was not in the mood to be hanging out with a kit all day. She just knew that Fatekit would be waiting right outside the medicine cat's den. Shortear let out a loud grumbled as she sat up thinking about how Fatekit would be hounding her down all day long, she had been luck to get away yesterday, but today she didn't feel as lucky. Shortear let out a small yawn she headed for the kit outside of her den, she poked her head out of the medicine cat's den, and sure enough Fatekit was waiting for her.

The kit was ready to give up on waiting for the medicine cat and find something else to do, perhaps go get one of the other kits and pounce on a warrior. Then there she was, small ears and all. Fatekit leaped to her paws and purred in excitement, looking up expectantly into the piercing yellow eyes of the she-cat, little white-tipped tail sticking striaght up to point at the sky. "Good Morning, Shortear! I'm ready to learn some more herbs today! I was actually wondering if you could tell me about those little red berries first? What do they do? How many do cats need to take? Do they taste good?" That snowy white muzzle just wouldn't stop meowing, questions spouting off like the water into the gorge. With every question she asked, another one popped into her head, and before she could stop herself it was out of her maw and into the medicine cats ears.
Fatekit paused in her rambling, head tipped to the side curiously. The tabby looked a little tired, her yellow eyes seemed to be struggling to stay open and were narrowed against the kit. The silver-blue kit swalllowed the rest of the herb questions and took a few tiny steps toward the she-cat, one paw suspended in the air. "Uh...Shortear...are you feeling okay today? Because if not, I can leave. I just wanted to know about the berries really, thats all..." Fatekit lowered her hazel eyes to her paws, scuffing the suspended one in the dirt regretfully, hoping truely she hadn't bothered Shortear when she wasn't up to teaching the kit today.

Shortear was glad for once that her ears were as small as they were, and she couldn't hear much. She looked down at the silver-blue kit lightly listing to each of the kits questions. "Yes Fatekit, i'm fine just didn't get much sleep last night." Shortear began to answer the questions the kit asked. "Good morning, Fatekit. And their are more then just one red berries there is Deathberries and Wintergreen." Shortear had remembered the times when she was a young kit asking the medicine cat every question that came to mind.

Fatekit didn't dare to look up at the she-cat until she was done with her answer. Perhaps it wasn't the best idea for her to come over and bother the medicine cat, she was tired after all and had a full day of duties ahead of her. The kit on the other hand had nothing to do but wait around for something good to happen. Placing both paws firmly on the ground, she stared back up into the yellow eyes staring down at her.
Deathberries? Those didn't sound very friendly. Fatekit had an idea that they were not good for cats, but then, why did medicine cats have to know them? It took a moment but the little ball of fluff figured out that since there was so different red berries, knowing the wrong ones was a good idea. "Deathberries and Winterberries? What do those do?" Fatekit asked more calmly and slowly, lowering her head but not losing eye contact with the she-cat, ears pointed forward to capture every word, drinking it all in. Even if she never became a medicine cat, who knows when all this herb stuff would come in handy?

As Shortear finished talking she looked down at the small kit, the she-kit didn't look as excited as she was just a moment ago, Shortear had hopped she didn't make the kit feel bad in anyway. Shortear finally sat down, she wrapped her long, fluffy, light-brown stripped tail around her paws as she listened to the silver-blue kit. "Okay, i'm sure you have guessed Deathberries are not good for cats. The Deathberries are found from the dark-leaved, poisonous yew bush, they are found most at the ravine in the ThunderClan forest territory, you will learn later where that is." Soon the medicine cat had to take a breath, then she was at it again. "The Deathberries have been used to kill other cats by making them eat the berry, but that is not something you should ever do. The Deathberries can kill a cat within minutes when consumed." Shortear was done talking about the Deathberries and was ready to go on to the Wintergreen. Shortear had to stop herself and ask. "Am i going to fast?"

Fatekit witheld the urge to go after the medicine cat's tail, the fluffy striped poof that all the kits trailed after. Of course withholding herself only made her fidget and lose concentration as she stared at the tail, looking for any twitch or movement. The explanation was hitting Fatekit's ears, but only when Shortear mentioned the berries can kill in minutes, the silver-blue she-cat looked up with wide, horrified eyes. Why would somebody want to feed a cat Deathberries? She most certainly didn't one to be one of the cats who consumed one by accident...or for anothers purpose. Before Fatekit could ask why would someone use Deathberries to kill cats, Shortear was ready to move along. Closing her eyes to quickly review what she just learned, Fatekit stored the information and gave a nod to herself.
"No, it's okay. So Deathberries are bad, I never want to touch one." The little kit shuddered at the thought of even coming near a bush of those death traps. Shortear had yet to speak of Winterberries, so Fatekit looked up at her attentively, eager to move one from the bad berries and hoping this one wasn't etheir.

shortear could tell that Fatekit was looking at her tail, she couldn't;t have really been listening to everything she was saying, if she was ever going to become a medicine cat that would have to change, and quick.
Shortear decided to give a small quiz on what she had just told the kit to make sure she had been listing. "Before i move on, answer this." Shortear wanted this to be a hard question, but nothing to hard for the little kit. "Where are the Deathberries found?" This had been something Shortear had said first and at the time it seemed the kit was thinking about her tail.
