A lithe tom, who still had trouble walking and running as he was not used to his long legs, trotted out of the nursery. Flamekit looked around, his barely-changed golden eyes dull with boredom. The ginger tabby let out a loud sigh, hoping that some cat would walk by and take it as a hint to play with him. Fallenstar, maybe? As if! The leader was far too busy to be playing with kits, right? Maybe his father, Adderfur? No, probably patrolling the borders or something.. Yellowkit? Maybe, but Flamekit hadn't seen her around lately.
If all of those cats were busy, which Flamekit was completely unsure about as is, then the kit would be left as he was now: sitting and gawking at the camp in boredom.
Flamekit took into account, for the first time in his few minutes out of the nursery that day, the weather: it was a fine day, really, the clouds were few and far between, and they were as white as snow, small and wispy. The sun was high in the sky- was it sunhigh, maybe?- and it didn't hold back on burning the camp with high temperatures.
Flamekit groaned as he began to grow increasingly hot due to the sun, and though he'd have liked to head back into the nursery, there was less to do in there than in the camp clearing, and there was no way Flamekit was going to waste the day by sleeping!
Flamekit contemplated leaving camp for an adventure, but where would that get him? More time as a kit, probably, that's where. With that, the ginger tabby tom settled with sitting around and waiting for some cat to come along and entertain him with stories or a game of sorts.

Okay, maybe this wasn’t one of her brightest plans she has ever had. But then again, she had been told she was nothing but a little kit if she didn’t do this. The bigger cats told her so. She was tiny and fearless, and she would prove it. She could be an apprentice and not some useless kit….maybe. The tiny kit had awoken at her normal early time, pestering her larger brother until he woke up. But Brackenkit had not minded, he was her protector, he had promised her this when all the bad things happened. He said they would stick together. And so far they had kept that pact.
Once Brackenkit had fully awoke, Brook-kit had bounced out of the nursery eager to start her day. Brackenkit had to practically force food down her throat, like every morning. Brook-kit just didn’t like to eat. Which really wasn’t good, and she knew that but she couldn’t help that everything tasted yucky to her. She had tried just pushing her food around with her nose, but Brackenkit was clever and quickly caught onto that little scheme. The other kit had resulted into feeding her himself. He was determined that his sister would stay alive. Brook-kit just didn’t see the point in eating. After everything she had experienced and seen in her life, she felt like she didn’t deserve to eat. That had been what her mother had told her. She just continued to have those words stuck in her brain. But with big brother always watching, it was hard. So that is how her next plan began. Distracting her brother so she didn’t have to be forced to eat again was a brilliant plan to this tiny kit. She had led him to the apprentices den to play with any that didn’t have training to do.
It was always funny to see the contrast in the two siblings. Brackenkit was almost as large as the apprentices now. He had finally had a growth spurt. Then again, the kit had been quite large to begin with. But he was the complete opposite of his sister when it came to personality. He was content to be a follower. He put up with her so that he could try to keep her out of trouble. Plus, she needed someone to look after her. It was his job as the bigger brother to do so. Brook-kit was so tiny and fragile that Brackenkit felt like she would break easily. He tried to be careful with her, but she seemed to want to play rough. He had to constantly remind her that she needs to slow down. She has such a big personality for such a tiny little body.
After a few moments talk with the apprentices and learning some fighting moves, it was time for the majority of them to go out training. And it just so happened that it was the same time that she was suppose to be taking a nap. But this little kit take a nap? Yeah right. The instant she saw that her brother was fast asleep, she snuck back out of the nursery and grinned. This was a much better idea.
Her eyes traveled around the camp. Still not much was going on. Maybe she could tag along with a warrior going on a patrol, she was good at sneaking out when they didn’t watch their paws. Her gaze stopped on Flamekit, one of the older kits in the nursery. What was he doing out here? Curious, the little kit padded closer and blinked at the tom. Brook-kit bounced on her paws. Maybe a new playmate?
”Wanna play?”
she asked. Maybe he knew of some good games to play. And then when they were done, she could just sneak right back in her nest and pretend like she had been sleeping the whole time. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

(If you can't read my post or it hurts your eyes because of the color, tell me.)
Flamekit's ears perked as he heard paws approaching. The ginger tom's head turned toward the sound and he saw a small kit coming his way. What was her name? He knew he'd heard it before.. She was younger than him, so maybe that's why he hadn't bothered much with her.
Flamekit wasn't much the type to bother with younger cats. He'd much rather hang around either cats his age or older cats. He didn't necessarily mind younger cats as much as it was that he didn't really go for hanging out with them. It was more of a subconscious thing, in all honesty.
The WindClan kit spaced for a few moments, and in that time, Flamekit hadn't noticed that the she-cat had spoken, but when he returned to reality, he blinked a few times and the words "Wanna play?" kicked in. Playing? Well, that sounded like a good idea, but that really depended on the game. Would they play moss-ball? StarClan, Flamekit hoped not. He was so sick of that ridiculous, boring game. Warrior? A bit overdone, maybe, but at least it tended to be interesting, though to Flamekit, this tiny she-cat didn't seem like the type who would want to fight, so maybe warrior was out of the question. A race around the camp? Now that was the equal to catnip in Flamekit's mind. He loved running, and his long legs helped inspire that love; he was the self-proclaimed 'fastest kit in the Clan'! Whether he really was or not, he didn't know, but Flamekit didn't particularly care, either.
After thinking all of this through, and even then not knowing whether the she-cat would suggest a game first, Flamekit nodded. "Sure, I'll play a game!" Even if it was moss-ball, the ginger tabby tom decided, then at least it was something, and anything was better than hiding away from the blazing sun on this hot, boring day. With that, the thin, lithe tom stood, his white paws carrying him forward a few pawsteps. Flamekit scented the air, trying to figure out by scent what exactly this kit's name was. He knew he'd heard it before, but what was it? Brave little Flamekit was not in any way shy, and so he didn't hesitate to ask, "What's your name? I think I've heard it before, I recognize you, but I just don't remember your name.." Flamekit didn't even consider the consequences in asking what her name was. After all, she was her Clanmate, so shouldn't he remember? Flamekit honestly expected claws to the face or a hiss or something to come next, and suddenly he wished he hadn't asked.

(It's completely fine. It makes it prettyful Christmas colors.) She hoped she wasn’t interrupting anything, it seemed as if the other kit was staring her down. Did she had something in her fur? Looking at it she inspected closely. Nope, nothing. Maybe he just had a staring problem? Or had he never seen a kit before? With one last quick glance to the nursery, to make sure that her brother was not following her, the little kit bounced on her paws eagerly. It seemed as if the hot day was not bothering her much. Then again, she had been through so much it took quite a lot to bother her.
Blinking at the other kit she grinned wide when he agreed to play with her. Yes! Finally she had something to do. And maybe this could keep her out of trouble. Then again, everywhere she went she seemed to attract trouble. Maybe this kit would play a fun game with her. Her brother didn’t like to be rough with her, afraid he would hurt her. But she thought she could be like him. After all, the apprentices played with her. Brook-kit bounced even more. ”Great! I’m up for playing anything other than mossball. That game is boring and I don’t like it.”
What Brook-kit wasn’t saying is that it was the game she played before everything happened. It was the game she USED to enjoy. She yawned, somewhat uninterested in Flamekit’s question. He didn’t know who she was? That was new. She thought everyone had heard of the damaged little kit that has issues. This could be fun. Someone who didn’t know her, wouldn’t judge her. ”I’m Brook-kit. And I really don’t know you either. I’ve seen you in the nursery, but I mostly play with the apprentices. But I got kicked out, they had training to go to.” she rolled her eyes at this.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Flamekit's ears perked, "That's exactly what I think of mossball!" Maybe he'd get along with this cat more than he expected. She could end up being a pretty good friend of his if things went like this! A friend that isn't Yellowkit! Great! Flamekit thought, getting his hopes up. His tail waved a single time in the air, his eyes burning with a new excitement, eagerness, happiness.
"Brook-kit.." Flamekit repeated in a mumble, "That's a nice name." He purred and nodded, "Yeah, I try to fit in with the apprentices and a lot of them, or their mentors, have the habit of picking me up by the scruff, dropping me outside the apprentices' den, and glaring at me until I back off! I was scared when it happened the first few times, but I've gotten used to it." Suddenly realizing he'd forgotten something, the ginger tabby mewed, "Oh, right! I'm Flamekit! Nice to meet you, Brook-kit!" Flamekit's voice grew a bit shakier and definitely took a saddened tone to it with the next sentence, "My mother died a few moons ago. My father, Adderfur, is a warrior, so a lot of his time is taken up, but I know he tries to play with my sister Yellowkit and I at least sometimes.." Honestly, the kitten hadn't seen his father for a bit of time, so he was starting to wonder if Adderfur cared about him, but he shook it off and gingerly asked, "What about you? Are you lucky enough to have both parents around, Brook-kit?"
Flamekit had been taught to stay out of others' businesses, but since he and Brook-kit seemed to have so[/] much- kits really have bad judgment in counting, don't they?- in common, it just seemed like a natural question to ask, and Flamekit hadn't bothered thinking about the possible consequences. Besides, Brook-kit hadn't attacked him for not knowing her name, so why would she attack him for this?
(Can the become mates as warriors, possibly?)

Brook-kit couldn’t help but have a grin on her face. It was nice to know that she wasn’t alone in her thought process. Sure she had heard the apprentices say that it was a game for newborns, but she really had never heard another kit agree with her. Then again, the only other kit she was ever with was her brother, and Brackenkit was well…Brackenkit. Who would have thought she had something in common with another kit? Her eyes brightened as she spoke, ”Good to know that someone agrees. I was beginning to think I was the only one.”
Her eyes casted to the ground as he spoke about her name. He thought it was nice? ”Of course it’s nice, it’s the only name I’ll ever have.”
|
she mewed. And there she went again, speaking without thinking. Her laughter finally surfaced when he began speaking about the apprentices den. ”They do that with me two! They try and bring me back to the nursery, but I end up just going right back. You would think they would learn their lesson by now and just let me do what I want.” Brook-kit mused. ”I’m not scared of anything! Never have been, never will be!” the little kit boasted, puffing out her chest and trying to increase her size. ”Flamekit…it suits you.” she mewed as she glanced at the tom. It really did, she could see exactly how he had gotten that name. When the conversation about parents began, Brook-kit’s eyes widened and showed not fear, but terror. She couldn’t relive those moments, she had just gotten over those awful dreams. ”My dad died when I was around a moon old. So I never really knew him. I really don’t remember him much.” she tried to sound casual about it. Sure, she really didn’t remember much about her father, that much was the truth. All she remembered is opening her eyes and seeing his death, right before he tried to kill her. ”And my mother died last moon. I don’t really remember much about her either. Just that she really loved my brother.” Yes, that was it. Keep it simple, that was a good plan. Brook-kit was not about to tell him about her mother’s plot to kill her either. Why would she when she hadn’t even told the leader, or even her own brother? ”So I guess I’m not lucky at all.” Brook-kit added. (Sounds good to me!)
Flamekit nodded, "Same here!" He himself had only really interacted, when it came to kits, with his littermate, Yellowkit, but why add that it? It was true, after all, considering Flamekit and Yellowkit had never discussed anything of the sorts that Flamekit could recall.
The ginger tom's ears perked, and his eyes filled with confusion and pity, "What do you mean the 'only name' you'll ever have? You're going to be Brookpaw in a few moons, then something awesome that the leader gives you as a warrior! I don't get it.." Was there something that held Brook-kit back from being an apprentice? Flamekit shook his head when she continued, "I know, right? They're just wasting time they could be using to play with us by placing us back in the nursery!" His tail lashed in annoyance as he thought of how the apprentices and their mentors treated him and the other kits at times. "Just because we're kits and they can pick us up doesn't mean they have to!"
Flamekit's whiskers twitched as the she-cat said she wasn't scared of anything. "You're not scared of anything, huh?" He decided to test her a bit, "What about spiders? Huge badgers? Giant dogs who slobber and bite and chase cats all over the place? What about twolegs? Don't they scare you? You have to be scared of something, don't you?!" He didn't want to crush the she-cat's pride, but at the same time, Flamekit couldn't help but hold back a pout; he was scared of things, and this was just a tiny she-cat, so the tom felt a wave of rivalry, maybe envy, at the she-cat for being able to so easily say she wasn't scared of anything.
"Y-you think so?" Flamekit purred. "Well, I am fast when I run, and my fur is ginger, so I guess you're right!" The tom gulped when he saw the terror in Brook-kit's eyes, suddenly feeling bad for asking. I knew it was a bad idea.. Flamekit thought. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.." Flamekit's voice was laced with pity when Brook-kit said her parents died and she couldn't remember much about them. "I suppose you aren't." He agreed, deciding not to ask about any littermates, just in case that was a subject that would upset the she-cat, too.
"So, uh," Flamekit began nervously, wanting to change the subject, "How about that game? What should we play?"

The younger kit stared at Flamekit completely confused now. He was turning her statement into something completely confusing. Blinking her eyes she tried to keep up but her brain wasn’t letting her. She thought about what he had said. Sure she would be Brookpaw in a few moons, that was the most exciting part. With a large grin the kit thought about being an apprentice. Oh the freedom she could have. ”I bet my warrior name will be something awesome!” she boasted. And there we go, Brook-kit was back to herself again. She was nodding at every word he said. He was speaking the truth. ”Just wait until we are apprentices. We would be the bestest ever. But when you get made an apprentice, you gotta promise you will still play with me until I get in that den. Cause I’m better than any of those mousebrain apprentices anyway.”
|
Brook-kit mewed. Brook-kit fluffed out her fur as much as she could, which really wasn’t much at all as Flamekit began his talk about fears. She shook her head. ”Nope. Nothing stands a chance against me. I could take on a badger all on my own! And dogs can’t hurt me, I’m too awesome for them to get me. Twolegs are just mousebrains. They couldn’t catch me if they tried.” her tail was twitching with excitement, at the thought of each and every one of these things. ”If you need me to I’ll protect you from all those things!” she quickly added. The kit was purring with amusement. She liked this kit, he was funny! ”Your fur is ginger? I thought it was blue….” she tried to joke with a serious face but busted into laughter. But her mood quickly shifted when the subject of her parents began. She shifted around and shrugged. ”Not your fault. Just be glad you still have your dad.” she mewed. And there he goes again, and she was grateful for the subject change. It was very welcomed. She nodded, and pushed all of those awful thoughts away. ”Can we go on an adventure? I haven’t been out of camp in a few days. My brother caught me trying to escape last time. And the time before a warrior found out and made me listen to the elders for moons!” Of course, the kit was exaggerating, but a few minutes to a kit seemed like moons. ”Or we could play warrior. Your choice.” Brook-kit said as she looked up at Flamekit. Word Count: 415 Tags: Flamekit (Mid) [/blockquote]

Flamekit's whiskers twitched in amusement, "I doubt Fallenstar would give you any warrior name short of awesome!" He mewed, trying to be encouraging, even though he honestly found the she-cat's boasting to be very funny.
The ginger tom nodded, "Of course I'll still play with you! Whenever I have free time off from training, that is. I've heard that being an apprentice is hard, but if it means being a warrior, then I'll do any amount of training, you know?" Flamekit purred in amusement this time, "I'm better than all of the other apprentices in WindClan right now, too!" He put in, puffing out his chest.
Flamekit wasn't sure how to respond to Brook-kit's answering of his list of fears. Should he encourage her? Wouldn't that put her in danger, if she was fueled by another cat's words to not fear those things? Should he, maybe, push her down a bit by saying something along the lines of 'I don't believe you' or 'that's not possible!'? Confusion muddled into his eyes, Flamekit shook his head and said nothing.
"So did I until I looked at it!" Flamekit meowed happily. This Brook-kit was quite amusing, whether she was always trying to be or not, which remained a mystery to Flamekit. The tom's claws sank into the ground suddenly, as he realized he was beginning to get a bit impatient. A game was definitely what the WindClan kitten needed.
Flamekit's ears perked again and his eyes narrowed, but his voice was low, as he tried to keep it so from other cats hearing, "An adventure out of camp sounds amazing. I don't know about you, but it's just what I need! Where will we go, though?"

Brook-kit actually didn’t even have to think before nodding eagerly. Of course the leader wouldn’t give her any mousebrained warrior name, that would be cruel. She was awesome, so she deserved an awesome name. ”I bet your warrior name will be awesome too. Cause anyone who lets me play with them is awesome.” she purred.
And with all the tom said, the little she-cat was able to let out a deep sigh. So maybe she would have a friend for life. With everything that had happened in her life, she needed someone she could really and truthfully trust, someone that would be there for her. Could this kit be someone she could trust? Shaking her mind from the thoughts, she grinned at Flamekit. Only time would tell the answer to her question. Right now, she needed to stop thinking about her troubles. ”Oh, I’ll come with you when you train, so you can have someone to help with battle training.”
|
It wasn’t like she already knew how to follow the warriors and apprentices out of the camp. She does that on a daily basis. If not several times a day. The kit had already learned the majority of the territory this way. ”Being a warrior would be the bestest thing ever. We could boss around all the kits and apprentices.” she said, the large grin returning at the thought. It seemed as if Brook-kit had almost met her match. ”Good, then that means I can practice the moves they teach me on you, and not my brother. He goes too easy on me, but you wouldn’t go easy on me would you?” she questioned, her eyes wide as she spoke. Finally! Someone shared her thirst for adventure! Brackenkit was too scared to join her on the adventures, now she had a new partner in crime. This was turning out to be the best day ever. Her paws soon seemed light on the ground and she bounced up and down. She didn’t even stop as she thought about the places they could go. Brook-kit’s mind was going through the list of possibilities quickly, knowing some places would not work because patrols could be running around. ”I know of several places, but they might have patrols come by and it would be hard to get there without them seeing us. We could go to my favorite spot. It’s this huge place that has flowers everywhere. Some of them are really big and you can sit under them to get out of the sun. Or we could go visit the place where the apprentices train and practice some battle moves.” the kit whispered. Those were two of the only places she could think of that wouldn’t be swarmed with warriors every few minutes. Sure there were probably more, but the kit was still young and hadn’t explored them yet.
